I was absolutely gutted yesterday to hear of the sad passing of Rod Liddle. 😔 Thank goodness we have LSO to fill that gaping void! Excellent article Sir! Thanks for the much-needed chuckle! 👏🏼
Very grim news Ady. Rod is absolutely irreplaceable. I always enjoyed his Spectator columns and saw him live in conversation a few times. He will be much missed.
He gave a 'lecture' (he'd call it a waffle) one evening and was absolutely spell binding. He spoke in his calm, measured, almost tired tone and launched thunderbolts of idea, opinion and passion at us.
That distant sound you hear is Putin laughing his arse off.
Who knew the jihadis watch gbnews? 🤣 Good grief these labour mps really are brain dead, its bloody frightening actually, how indoctrinated some are. Clearly that one has no idea how many gay presenters there are on gbnews - Darren Grimes, Alex Armstrong, Kai Wilshaw just to name 3 😆
Shaba talks tough but she's hidebound by the back benchers. The 10 grand thing is ludicrous and most people with a functioning brain cell saw straight through it. As for safe and legal routes - there already are. You apply to emigrate here. It takes time and money but that's what you do.
Personally I think its high time we had a red list, like the USA. No more visas or migration from Pakistan, Afghanistan, Eritrea, Sudan, Iran, Iraq, etc etc.
The bit I like was Starmfuhrer so desperately flailing around to disguise his own incompetence and blaming Putin - while running down our defence industry.
Putin doesn't care about the UK. The Left have done so much damage anything Putin did would improve us.
Pakistani women have a talent for play-acting the serious, competent constitution-fetishist. Most big organisations have over-promoted a couple into the HR empire, and indeed Mahmood has learnt well under Starmer.
To see a more emotionally engaged and girlish side, have a look at her video reporting on the refugee crisis in Lesbos in 2015, and the more famous clip of her emoting about having closed a supermarket for a couple of hours because she disagreed with them selling Jewish (whoops! Sorry, Israeli) produce. And then the video in which she says that Islam is her ultimate guiding principle.
Under that sensible mask is a shouty sixth-form radical muslim whose family happen to have settled in this country.
Given her expressed allegiance to her religion, and the known Muslim tradition of taquiyya, or dissimulation, it would not be that unreasonable to imagine where her real allegiance lies. In my view, she’s playing the long game.
Re: the tsunami of illegals entering Ceuta - apparently have all returned. Could this be due to something not reported in the UK media, but widely broadcast in Spain, that the Spanish government mobilised their army, including an armoured division i.e Tanks! to face these
"migrants". For the record, Spain, like Britain, has signed up to the ECHR.
I’m not sure despite their claims that they have ‘all returned’.
I’ve seen plenty photos this morning that show otherwise.
Also, the reports clearly state that Spain can return these people because they passed a law a few years ago giving themselves the right to return these people.
They are doing it because they chose to do it. All this talk of the navy is just another distraction. They don’t need to get out the guns, they just need to sign some bits of paper. They choose not to because they lack the political and ideological will.
🫣 Yes billb, or maybe we should just stop inviting them to come with our perverse incentives, then we wouldn’t have to worry what to do with them once they get here. 👍
Ha ha you say that Wibbling. But you’re clearly a decent person, and the reality is neither you or I would really accept the suffering that would cause. At least I don’t think so.
But I maintain none of this is necessary, remove the incentives, have a more robust returns policy and the numbers would drop precipitously. I don’t think this can be solved in the Channel. It can only be solved in Parliament. I don’t want to ‘punish’ anyone, except maybe the politicians…
Do you know, at the moment, with an article - even getting in to the grown up press - about the daily occurrence of a criminal immigrant raping or murdering someone - I don't care. It is a matter of choice. They choose to break our law. They have no right to be here. It is statist malice that continues this invasion.
You are right LSO. So obvious to anyone not terminally liberal that none of them, absolutely none of them red or blue ever had or have any intention of stopping or even slowing the illegal arrivals, never mind the 'highly skilled' visa recipients. All a bit depressing if one dwells on it too long.
On a lighter note, I managed to recall Petunia's name before playing that old public information advert from my boyhood😁. Brilliant.
Ha ha it was the countryside one I thought of first, the one with the angry farmer, but Joe is wearing a flap cap in that one so it didn’t work as well. I wonder how many women called Petunia there are in Britain today.
Oh yes I think I remember….the town-dwelling visitors laugh at their dog ‘playing with the sheep’ or something. Not much changes does it? I see instances most Springs in my hill wanderings, sadly.
Do you remember that story recently? Where the guy, obviously not local, was dismantling a dry stove wall and chucking it about? There was a lot of that going on in this public information film. As you say nothing much changes
I think I do…..a bit of cultural diversity on display was it? Or just a numpty maybe. A bit of a lark, like chopping down the tree at Hadrian’s Wall. You wonder how some people manage to dress themselves in the morning.
“And then Labour MP, Kate Osborne stepped in, seeming to suggest that such atrocities are the inevitable consequence of the proles being allowed to watch GB News.”
I assume she meant the inevitable consequences of the lanyard classes reading the Guardian and watching the BBC.
That would make some sense! Perhaps a brave Tory or Reform MP should use use Kate’s words with the necessary corrections
I was coming to share my usual arguments with your points, but sorry. Nothing today. I have to agree with you all the way.
I will say though, there is a tiny chance that after that comedy in Morocco, countries in Europe — Italy, Denmark, France, Spain, Germany, et al — will have more to say about illegal immigration. Maybe they’ll find a way to cooperate, even.
Hi Ragged. I doubt it. No one wants these people. They are being moved around like toxic waste. This is not fair on anyone.
We should be doing our best to help these countries develop. I mean by opening markets and offering legal expertise-not aid. But if they are not interested then it is not our responsibility.
I agree in principle but what we really do then is - ass Mr Opinions states - limit their own development.
Imagine if superman built and repaired everything for us. We wouldn't need our own engineers. We wouldn't develop scientists, machinery, technology. We wouldn't develop the educated middle class so essential to society's stability. They buy things. They also demand things: better roads, fancy cheese. This creates real demand, and more, education. The next generation then improve on what the last created and on and on to real, over time ingrained cultural development. More, with an investment in that society - houses, schools, day care, health centres - they also stabilise those countries making it less likely the poor can be mobilised to militia or gangs.
What credence does some mouthy warlord have when it means giving up clean water, toilet paper and your little 2 up two down house?
The best thing we can do for the third world is to bugger off and leave them alone. Not internationally - we should still buy coffee, nuts, fruit, cheese but we should do so at real market rates so they grow food for themselves first. But we've broken that as the coffee market is more valuable, it just goes the wrong way financially.
Absolutely 🎯 I’d add that if a government needed our help or ‘security’ while setting up the bureaucracy and infrastructure it needs to build such an economy/society then I’d be happy to lend a hand. More customers more creators more stable societies, it’s all better for everyone in the long run.
Unfortunately we are spending billions to do the opposite, to ensure none of this ever happens, and to help keep millions in poverty and dependency. 🤔
I'd not want to foist our civil service or legal system on them! What have they done to deserve that! Goodness me, we're trying to help them!
I'd go for the Singaporean one where the administration explicitly *didn't* collect endless nonsense specifically to stop morons (politicians) from meddling. What they didn't know they couldn't ruin.
Absolutely Toffee. Just saying I was a huge fan. Saw him a couple of times and loved his work. Imagine someone like Rod being put in charge of a flagship BBC news show today…. There’s huge gap in British cultural life now.
Tibetans predicting that Wes Streeting "will be reincarnated as a puddle". Too good! Nailed him. Hopefully in the current heat, the puddle will evaporate quite soon.

“…house the homeless, help the hapless, and hire the hopeless”. LSO, this is tremendous.
Thanks ZuZu if I was honest I must confess to being quite happy with that-so thank you for noticing!! 🙏

A powerful performance of punchy prose and an artful accomplishment of alliterative alchemy 👌🏼
🙏
Grifters, all of them! (Not Rod Liddle, he was a giant, taken way too early)

Hey James! Two things.
I’m not sure despite their claims that they have ‘all returned’.
I’ve seen plenty photos this morning that show otherwise.

Maybe... Maybe... We should give all the illegals a one way ticket to Kiev, and let the Banderites deal with them?
🫣 Yes billb, or maybe we should just stop inviting them to come with our perverse incentives, then we wouldn’t have to worry what to do with them once they get here. 👍
I'd advocate the Australian example, only with a 10 x 10 open to the air raft 50 miles off the west coast of Ireland.

It could be stopped. The Left won't let it.

Hi Paul, people keep saying, after each mounting atrocity, ‘surely this will wake them from their slumber, and accept that there is a huge problem’.
But no. It just makes them double down on their cognitive dissonance and flail even further afield for scapegoats and distractions.
It’s nuts. They’re nuts. And we’re nuts for thinking any ‘event’ will make them open their eyes.
I was coming to share my usual arguments with your points, but sorry. Nothing today. I have to agree with you all the way.

Helping countries develop so often equates to helping those countries' elites help themselves to an increasingly filled trough.
Or, in the case of certain African countries, the above plus helping them have more and more children make their way over here.
Agreed. Do you follow Magatte Wade @magattew here on Substack? She’s very good on this issue. At least for African nations.
I follow her. Yes, she’s an engaging free-trade advocate of a kind now extinct in Britain
I'll have a look, thank you for the pointer.

I meant "phrase!"
Tibetans predicting that Wes Streeting "will be reincarnated as a puddle". Too good! Nailed him. Hopefully in the current heat, the puddle will evaporate quite soon.
It must be getting harder to find things that the government do that doesn’t sound true.
"Why do we never get an answer..?"
