You describe this very elegantly. I grew up in the 80s when casual racism, homophobia and Jimmy savile were part of the culture. Sure, things aren’t perfect, but the difference now is night and day. Like you say: take the win.
The whole manufactured hysteria about racial and gay prejudice is, as you say, so infuriatingly patronising. A friend who is a magistrate and has mixed race children practically bites through her own lip every time she is required to attend a compulsory unconscious race bias re-education seminar.
It’s so awful Bettina. The worst aspect to me I think is how they are always ready to see the worst in people. They always assume regular people can only ever be motivated by spite and nastiness-it’s a weird way to view your fellow humans.
I know! Well we all judge others by our own standards, so their own must be pretty low. Or is it simply more of the divide and conquer strategy? Creating grievance when none exists to ensure division?
Of course we should we should “take the win”. Virtually all of us had. But the Grievance Industry can never take the win because it would then be out of a job. So it has either to deny that there has been a win (pace racism) or invent new grievances (pace transphobia, to which Stonewall has migrated).
And the Grievance Industry is not only about preserving jobs, of which there are many well remunerated examples, but furthering the Greater Purpose, which is some sort of Marxist Utopia.
So like death and taxes, the Grievance Industry will be forever with us.
I fear you are right Paul. It’s the Opportunity Cost of the GI which really gets me. All the time wasted sitting around accusing each other of imaginary slights, time which could be spent building stuff, and actually improving people’s lives. Or at least in a less utopian version, trying stuff, getting it wrong, and then trying something different, all without walking on eggshells in case we have caused some kind of confected ‘offence.’
I enjoyed this very much Mr LSO. England was a very different place in the 70s and 80s. I think we should get some credit for our dramatically increasing tolerance. I’ll start: Well done, us.
Too much to enthuse about in one comment, but I am so glad I found you! Excellent piece. You've summed up modern goings-on superbly and concisely. This take on the way we are channelled down the iniquitous and Orwellian "only acceptable thought" routes ought to be read by the unthinking masses who go down them. Incredible how we are being manipulated AND portrayed as nasty if we don't conform. Great read.
Thank you, and glad you liked Save the Sturgeon. I did a longer piece on her if you are bored and have nothing better to do. It is an old joke but really I do find her very fishy, especially coming after the Salmond! Surely somebody is joking in the heavens.

Nicola Sturgeon on a booster seat made my day. Thank you.
Ha ha. You’re welcome Kate.

Don't forget that Bill Burr was accused of being a racist BECAUSE he's married to a black woman.
Had to look him up (!) but clown world indeed 🤦🏼♀️
This article is a thing of beauty
No Dominic. YOU are a thing of beauty. But thanks!
You describe a latter day Inquisition. Poetically.
Thank you. That’s very kind. At least the Inquisition waited until the end to find you guilty!
I feel like standing up and singing the national anthem and giving a standing ovation to that, that'll really p**s them all off 🤣🤣🤣
Please don’t Eli,abeth. I don’t want you getting arrested for displays of patriotism in a public place.
🤣🤣🤣
Displays of jingoism are far more common than those of patriotism.
I like just standing for the pledge of allegiance and shouting "republic" when the word comes up.

Thanks Ragged. Agreed. Pats on the back all round!

Thank you so much Delia. And thank you for taking the time to read it!
I agree with a lot but not all of what you say. I don't like Boris but Rishi Sunak is a 'Hi risk anus'. That's an anagram of his name.

As regards Sturgeon it is an endangered species.

I wouldn’t want you to necessarily agree with all of it Baldmichael! We like people to have different opinions right? I enjoyed you Save The Sturgeon😂

Boris Johnson is Britain's Biden.
At least Biden has the excuse he has no idea what he’s doing.
You don't think that both of them are very accomplished at lying, cheating, and stealing?
They’re both uniquely awful.
They can form a bridge across the pond.
Thank you Matthew! That’s an incredibly kind thing so say. I really appreciate your support.
