This is, to some extent, a product of globalisation — whereby the ‘elite’ classes were able to connect to each other internationally, and form a power layer *above* the level of national governments, which they are all allegiant to. Globalisation allowed them to simply untether from the petty concerns of the locals.

The people who make up this power layer really believe themselves to be kind of gods among men. They perceive themselves as highly intelligent, and therefore entitled to rule, and manage our lives down to the finest details, as though we were cattle to be herded about the place. This is outrageous hubris, but it’s also frankly hilarious given how *utterly incompetent* current western leadership is. These people are buffoons! They are deeply unwise, and they’ve made a complete mess of the world.

Frankly we probably would have done better over the past 10 years if we’d just hailed a Black Cab, yanked the driver out, and put him in charge of the country.

The asinine, arrogant leadership we’ve been subjected to is truly risible. These people lack even the most basic common sense. They’re just screeching all day about absolute nonsense, and destroying things. Since Blair, it seems like the government are a bunch of pyromaniacs who can’t stop lighting dumpster fires all over the place — they have the anti-Midas touch, everything they touch turns to crap.

I think the worst thing about living through this insane era is the utter STUPIDITY of it. Everything is just so... stupid. Clown World. The thing that makes me maddest is that even now, it's not like the problems we face are unsolvable riddles, wrapped inside enigmas, nested in a Rubik's cube. They're just decisions. And we could simply make different ones tomorrow. But we don't, because our elite classes all went insane and they're trapped in a hall of mirrors shouting about irrelevant "issues" as the world outside burns. Infuriating to watch!

Yes, it's funny how the 'politics of envy' virus has infected the Conservative Party. All about the optics: as a government we might have beggared you, but hey look we're being mean to rich people.

Talking of optics, I read the other day that the going rate to cross the Channel in an overcrowded inflatable dinghy was £1,000. Why don't they get the Eurostar or EasyJet? Waaay cheaper. Why do we need to be presented with the images of small boats full of dodgy looking men arriving on our shores? What are those optics all about?

Superlative writing as ever, LSO.
